Personal NAS

Hello everyone! 

 

First of all, I would like to apologize if I am asking this in the wrong place. I am looking at getting a personal NAS for my home network here before too long. I know that Linus has talked about this before but I wanted to reach out and see what others are using.

How much storage do you need? 

 

What speeds do you need?

 

What protocols do you want to use?

For a NAS prebuilt

 

I would like to replace all the cloud storage I use so about three or four TB

 

Don't care about speed 

 

Honestly, don't know what you mean about protocols but I would like to be able to turn it into a 'cloud' and access the files from my computer laptop and phone. Although I don't know if there is a thing that does that.

Id just get a 2 bay synology, then put 2 4-8tb hdds in there and set them up in shr.

 

Do you have a backup plan in case something happens to the nas?

Honestly not really apart from the cloud. My college pays for Microsoft Office for me so I have 1 TB of free storage there. I realize that isn't the best solution but that is why I am trying to slowly get better with data storage. 

 

I edit a lot of videos for my church that I don't want lost. Which is why I am trying to keep them off my old HDDs on my computer.
