Help! What is happening!?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

There's no reason the motherboard shouldn't be able to set the voltage by itself.   Manual is only for overclocking.

Core voltage would be 1.375, but again, there's no reason to have to do that.

Ok - so I bought an Intel Core i9-10900K and an ASUS Z490 Gaming-G mobo with my 2070 SUPER. I have a RM850x PSU, but my computer randomly turns off when I stress it. Can’t tell if it’s CPU or GPU. Works decently when I unplug the 4 pin CPU power connector (there is a 4 pin and 6 pin) - it doesn’t run as fast but it doesn’t turn off randomly. Do I have a defective power supply? Is it because some of the power cables touch or something? Do I need a better PSU?

Possibly a bad overclock sometimes motherboards pump too much voltage into your cpu causing it to be unstable I’ve seen it in ryzen but never in Intel try and set the voltage manually.

What should I set the voltage to? (I’ve never overclocked before so)

How does it "turn off"?

Black screen?  Or does it literally shut down with all fans coming to a stop, etc?

Turns off, fans stop, but it does turn back on on its own after.

Edit: this is kinda off topic, but I have to boot using the boot override- when I select my SSD as boot device it just goes to the American Megatrends Your PC posted in safe mode screen. Any idea what’s up with that?

Should I try 1.2 Volts?

Ok.  That's a "reboot", not a "turn off".

Turning off requiring you to turn the PC back on would be a sign of a PSU issue.  You're describing a reboot here.

Oh ok - someone mentioned setting a voltage manually. I don’t really want to overclock the CPU but it sounds like the motherboard is trying to do it by itself. I did notice the voltage was on auto in the bios. If I put it to manual, what voltage should I set it to?

K - will try that in the morning just eliminate that. (It’s night time now for me)
