mdsimo

hello there.

I am looking at getting one of the new MacBook pros main uses would be couch potato stuff like netflix, youtube etc...

But i am looking to start learning python and just want to make sure that 8gb will be enough to run pycharm or something equivalent.

id assume any projects id be doing would be basic for a while.

thanks for you help

For basic programming, even 4GB does the job, I've written simple scripts on some seriously crappy laptops.

Ram really only becomes a concern when compiling/running pretty complex programs. For a learner, 8GB will do the job just fine.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

^ Yep you'll barely even notice your memory filling up learning python (not even remotely)

I have some pretty big xcode projects but barely run over 8GB in compile/test time

what about if i changed my leaning to learn swift and make iPhone apps or something would it still be the same type of thing.

I do have a gaming rig also if i needed to do something more powerful.

256gb should be enough as i wont really be storing anything on it besides code files etc.

also thanks for the quick responses, appreciate it..

I use jetbrains IDEs on the daily and yeah, you'll have a hard time running out of memory with 8GB, even with larger projects.

Yeah just like everyone else I think 8gb would do the job. My friend once wrote a code in python on one of those terrible HP netbooks from like 2013.
