So a while back I destroyed my SSD and Hard Drive. Pretty annoying of course, but those things happen when you're learning how to build pc's. The question is that I don't know how I did it and I'd like to know for future learning. The only thing I can think of, is that I put the SATA power cables into the CPU or PCIe slot on the PSU. Could that be it?

That would not work. Can elaborate more on what has happened?

The cables are fool proof, there is no possible way to do that. The connectors have shapes that don't fit into one another to avoid destruction

What power supply did you purchase for your build?

It's been a while so I don't remember a 100% how it went. Just had this question popped into my mind and wanted to have it answered. But I changed the power supply and suddenly my SSD and Hard Drives were all broken. Not recognised in BIOS, the HDD's aren't even turning on. Changed SATA cables and different ports, everything. Just bought a new SSD and works totally fine. Since the drives are not connected anywhere else to the MOBO, putting them in the wrong "whole" was the only thing I can think of.

While that's technically true, the shape of the connectors on the power supply that the OP said they had after your post does allow the connectors from other cables to work. The problem still though are the clips being in the center, so I'm still curious on how they managed to plug in the connectors.

Corsair RM750x so that shouldn't be the problem.

I wanted to look it up to see what the connectors looked like.

I don't think they fit and I don't think that this has been the problem. Just wanted to double check. Well then I'm clueless how it happened, but that's okay at least I know it isn't this.

Did you buy both the SSD and HDD from the same seller. Maybe they scammed you and sent you a faulty one, or maybe (the HDD) got damaged in shipping due to excessive vibrations (if it wasn't packed properly). Is the seller reputable (how many sales have they done, what is their average feedback)

Nah I bought them seperately and they were working fine before. I got the HDD's from a reputable shop but they were years old already. The SSD I got secondhand because I wanted to see the performance of SSD's before spending a hundred bucks on them. I did look up whether the seller had good reviews (which he had) and the SSD was a Microm M600 so shouldn't be faulty. Worked fine for months.

Hmm, wierd. Did you try plugging it into another PC. When you say it was not detected in the BIOS, did you mean in the boot options area or the actual BIOS or UEFI area. Try plugging it into a PC and running crystaldiskinfo

Yeah I tried plugging it in another PC with different cables, the whole thing. It wasn't detected in either (boot area and actual bios).

Also tried the "Dead SSD revival trick", so plugging it in, going into bios and just letting it sit there. But since it doesn't actually run that method was kind of a last resort.

Well, they can fit if you push hard enough, like if you push enough to ultimately break or bend the clip. Even if the connector doesn't make full contact, it can still make enough to allow the drives to be sufficiently connected.

Inspect the connectors, are they damaged or slightly broken or have any cosmetic damage to them

Nah if they wouldn't just "click" I wouldn't have tried to push them in.

All looking fine as far as my knowledge goes for these things.

Is it possible for you to get some photos of the connectors? Both for the power supply, and the drives.

A photo of the PSU connectors is not really possible right now. But since I'm using those cables right now I'm assuming they should be fine. A picture of the SSD's, sure if you really want. But there's really nothing to see.

No need to upload a picture, just inspect it to look for damage. Has some gold plating been chipped off, is any plastic cracked e.t.c.

All looking fine. I think it's electrical because all three drives snapped at once.
