alienware x51 case swap

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.):  I have an Alienware x51, not sure if its the r1 or r2, but I am wanting to do a case swap to something that I can upgrade the graphics card to play some newer games. currently have a gtx 1050 and it plays most games reasonably well for an older system. It has 8 gigs of ram on 2 sticks. An i5-3330 @ 3.00 ghz. No idea what the motherboard is capable of hosting or if it is at its limits. I'm looking to order parts 1 or 2 at a time depending on price and availability.  Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as this is my first, moderately high end pc.

Your i5-3330 will be as limiting in newer games as your 1050. I don't think there's a point in trying to keep it. Better sell your whole pc as a whole, might be able to get $250-300 on it and with a $850 total budget build new from scratch
