Will it Bottleneck, pairing a Core i5 8600 and RTX 3070?

freckles_ZA

Good day everyone

I'm considering buying a RTX 3070 at https://www.wootware.co.za/palit-geforce-rtx-3070-gamingpro-oc-ne63070s19p2-1041a-8gb-gddr6-256-bit-pci-e-4-0-desktop-graphics-card.html but will my CPU cause a bottleneck? I cant get a definitive answer anywhere.

I have a LG 27UL500-W 27" UHD 4K display.

Will be playing Microsoft Flight Simulator, Anno 1800 and Cyberpunk 2077 mostly.

Thank you in advance.

At 4k probably not depending on the game.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

It shouldn’t prove to be too much of a bottleneck as you can overclock the 8600K to 5 Ghz. However, the lack of hyperthreading might start to hold your system back in some games. At 4K you will almost always be GPU bottlenecked however.
So the short answer is that it really depends on the type of games that you play.
Edit: Just realized that you have a 8600? And not the K chip?

Yes, I only have the 8600.

Well, that changes things somewhat. I can’t recall the maximum boost of the 8600 but like I mentioned a 6 core chip will start to show its age. The best thing you could do is to run Afterburner while playing a game and look at the CPU and GPU percentage use. If your CPU is running at 100% and your GPU lower, then you have a CPU bottleneck. Keep in mind that a 3070 is roughly equivalent  to a 2080 Ti which people were recommending to pair with a 9900K or at least an 8700K before the 3000 series cards were released.
You haven’t mentioned what motherboard you have. Depending on your motherboard, you might be able to upgrade your CPU (to an 8700K for example).

You can’t overclock on that board so you’re better off using the 8600 for now and then upgrading your motherboard and CPU if/when you have the money.

And that Palit 3070 is a decent enough card - I had one before I bought my RX 6800.
