Graphics power issues

Go to solution Solved by m9x3mos,

Sounds like you damaged something with the power delivery on the card. If another card doesn't exhibit these problems, I think the problem is the card. Would need to probably send it in for repair. These cards don't really have schematics available with enough information for third party repair for the most part.

Hey first post looking for some help. Fairly sure there is no fix but maybe someone can help.

I have a strix gtx1080 I was using for my wife’s build and in my impatience of using the right stuff I most definitely damaged things. I was using an old CX600M with only 1 PCI-e 6x2 connector. Instead of waiting and getting the right cable for said power supply I used a straight 6x2 to the 8 pin on the card and used a 6 pin in the SATA/Peripherals and plugged that into the 6 pin on the GPU. When trying to power up it failed with just a LED flicker. I then smelt a burn from the power supply and found I killed all 3 SATA 6 pin outlets. I was hoping the GPU would be fine, but now with the right cables and a new PSU I’m running into problems.

When I turn on the PSU, the GPU LEDs where the power connectors are, light white meaning I have good power running to the GPU. When I power on however the GPU failed to initialize with the BIOS and doesn’t show up and also fails to display. When I exit the BIOS with a reset with no changes, the computer restarts and then the GPU works and is displaying properly. However if I shutdown and then turn back on it fails to see the GPU again. Basically if the power flow is cut the BIOS initialized before the GPU can register as connected. The other issue is with that GPU installed the reset button causes a full power off for about 3 seconds then turns back on. With my other card (660 Ti) everything works fine.

Any ideas what is wrong on the card and could I fix it?
