UPS Fan swap

This will probably work. Do you know how the existing fan connects to the system? standard 3 or 4 pin?

I don't know. I haven't opened yet the UPS. I want to gather more info first.

I suppose it uses the standard 3 pin because the fan is working at full speed regardless of load.

I wonder if the NF-R8 redux-1200 will move enough air so the batteries will not overheat. I do not use the UPS 24/7, I use it 3-4 hours a day during.

Hi,

Recently I've bought a rack mountable UPS. (LARICE | MP S RT2 1.5KVA - sorry, I can't find any links in English).

The problem is that it is very very loud. I'm using it in mobile audio rack and I need it to be as silent as possible so the performance of the singer is not disturbed.

The model of the fan that is currently used is HK FAN AB8025V12.

What fan should I get to replace this one? I know that I'll loose the warranty but sacrifices have to be made.

If the fan can not be swapped do you know any sound insulation I can use?

Thank you!

Or you can get a low noise adaptor or put a potentiometer inline with the existing fan to reduce it's RPM.

  • 4 months later...

I'm in the same boat here, @viktorfilim. Have you solved it?

I don't see a reason UPS come with such a louder fan than to force us to mess with the warranty. Jesus.

I have opened my UPS to check it out and this fan uses a 2-pin pattern.

In order not to cut cables and do some nonsense, I decided to buy a 3 to 2-pin adapter.

After some research I decided to buy the FLX version of Noctua: https://noctua.at/en/nf-a8-flx. It already comes with some cables to further reduce the noise.

Unfortunately it will take a little while for the fan to arrive, because here in my country only one store currently imports Noctua, and as these small sizes are less in demand, they take longer to import.

I'll keep in touch

So, just a heads up here, most UPS's use 12v batteries in series for an output of 24v, and thus typically have 24v fans.  Most computer fans like what you guys want to swap in are 12v.  You'll need step that down to 12v if that's the case.

Thanks for the tip, but the little that can be found on Google about this model indicates that it is a 12v fan:
