GPU Undervolting Tips?

Hi, i want to undervolt my R9 280X, because it has some overheating problems. I've undervolted from 1.200V to 1.156V. Is my progression is right?

Have you disassembled and replaced thermal compound?  Cleaned fans, improved case airflow?  
 

Undervolting is fun to tinker with, I do it myself. Just want to make sure the over-heating issue can’t be fixed properly some other way.

I'm afraid to damage to GPU, because i've never tear down an GPU before. I can't trust myself about that.

It’s pretty straight forward and easy. If you can build a computer, you can disassemble a gpu. Find a few good YouTube videos and follow along. Make sure you have a tube of thermal compound. MX4 is good and last a long time, non conductive, which means if you get a little sloppy, it can’t short anything. Perfectly safe.
