GPU usage dropping when it's needed

So the tldr is that the more GPU intensive the area, the lower my GPU usage goes but it's deeper than that.

Basically my computer will function as intended untill a threshold is reached where I'd turns into what I'm dubbing "throttling mode" in which it will lower the GPU usage the more work it should be doing. This causes the frames to be normal when the GPU isnt doing much (looking at skyboxs, standing still) but tanks in performance once anything needs to be loaded in. 

this happens on all games but under different circumstances:

in sekiroand Titanfall 2 this mode will not turn on unless there are other processes going on with it like discord or chrome

In Fortnite it will trigger immediately on the games launch.

notes:

It is not my CPU as it never goes above ~60% usage 

i have 16gb of memory

i have tried different and fresh drivers for my GPU motherboard and bios updates

I have tried a fresh windows install

Specs:

RTX 2070 super

ryzen 5 3600x

16gb of RAM

B450 gaming plus max mobo

since you didn't list it I'm gonna go ahead and say it's psu.

Yeah that's probably exactly what happens, just need to find out why. 

 

 

temps, power, game settings... 

 

not enough info to make an educated guess for me tbh. 

 

additional info that might help:

 

exact name / wattage psu? 

 

which ram? dual channel? XMP / frequencies? 

 

 

PS: also please download gpu Z and let it run while playing games, set the monitoring to show 'max', then post some screens of all the values

Yeah that's probably exactly what happens, just need to find out why.

My ram is 2 sticks of 8 GB DDR4 2400

MY PSU is a Corsair CX600M

Settings in game do not affect the throttling as it would do it even at 720p in fortnite

Temps on both CPU and GPU did not exceed 70°C

ok RAM is a bit slow, but it shouldn't cause these issues imo... have you tried setting XMP to 3000mhz or something, and what's the RAM actually rated for (if you know)? 

 

Also is it *dual channel*? refer to your mobo manual for this. 

 

Otherwise as I said let GPU-Z run in the background, post pics from the values shown after the problem occurred...

I havent tried setting xmp for the RAM, thanks for the suggestion, also im not sure what the memory is rated for but i have checked and it is dual channel.

i have posted my gpu-z results and one thing to note is while the gpu load is 85% max you can see on the graph that is ran at much lower later when the game is actually playing.
