For about two weeks or so, I've been getting inconsistent speed test results.  A couple of days ago, my Internet was down for a few hours so I don't know if it has anything to do with that.  I pay for 50/10 Mbps service and over the few years that I've had Comcast, I've been pretty lucky in that the service is generally pretty reliable.

In between the hours of 6-9 p.m. (or later), I can run about ten consecutive speed tests with very different results.  I've checked the Comcast forums and this seems to be a running theme.  Is anyone else having similar issues?

Comcast speeds can be inconsistent, but it also matters where you are.

To be honest Comcast isn't showing me the quality i am paying for their crappy service.

Comcast is one of those companies that cares more about money than their customers service

They will be going down the hole in a few years, if they don't improve their business.

They are very mad at Netflix, Youtube, and streamtv like Twitch, because they are racking up the big bucks, and making cable obsolete.

In the end Comcast wont be the giant it is soon.

Not all ISPs are bad news, if you're lucky enough to be in an area with a small local one then you usually have good experiences.

Utah... Do you have Google Fiber?  :)

Yes i do. And it is amazing. But before Google bought the network it was owned by the city and the ISP that ran over the fiber (Veracity) did pretty nice job of doing it. Never had any problems really.

Do you actually get gigabit speeds or is it 800-ish Mbps or so?  Some of the speed tests I've seen never actually reached full gigabit speeds.

Check the link in my sig, with overhead and everything else in ethernet you can expect to see around 930-940 tops.

Did you get the TV bundled to waive the installation fee or just the Internet?

I did get the TV bundled, my fiance wanted it and the nexus 7. In Provo the installation is only 30$ but it isn't waived by TV installation.

They must have changed their fees then.  I read the installation fee in Kansas is $300 if you just want Internet which is waived if you get television service as well.  It's a great deal either way.  $70 per month for both TV and Internet is awesome compared to anywhere else.  I would get the television with it for Game of Thrones alone.

It's just different in Provo, i assume because there's a lot of existing fiber here already and to install at my house all they had to do was switch the fiber OTN. They didn't have to pull new fiber in from the street or anything like that, which they have to do in Kansas.

Funny story, i was already living in the area, just in a different city, once i heard about Google coming in last April i started looking for a new place. It was really nice timing because my contract for that apartment was just about to run out anyways. So i moved into a house that already had the fiber installed, because i assumed they would cover existing customers first, turns out i assumed correct. I was one of the first to be installed in early November.
