Budget (including currency): INR 5000-10000 (~135 USD)

Country: India

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Unreal Engine, Unity, 3Ds Max, Maya, etc

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I had a question regarding intel 3rd gen CPUs

I currently have i3 3220, GTX1660 6gb, 8gb RAM, 450W PSU Corsair, AND B75m-d2v Mobo

I have a very limited budget since I don't plan on using my parent's money for any upgrades just yet.

Due to my budget, I only have a few options in front of me

I'm planning on upgrading my CPU since it is obviously bottlenecking my GPU

I use my PC for making game art and models and environments

And maybe moderate Gaming

My i3 already works like a beast, it's old but it gets the job done

So I need help in deciding whether I should buy an i7 3770 and use my current Mobo (1155)

Or with this limited budget, get some other processor with a new Mobo

I can barely spend around 10,000 INR (135 USD), nothing more! (please ;_;)

Any new CPU is going to be a major upgrade from my i3

But I'm concerned about the Mobo

I will have to buy a new one if I choose a newer gen CPU

So for me the i7 3770 seems like the best option.

It's cheap, much faster than what I have, and has the same socket.

Is there any thing else I should consider?

I know for game design, I would need a very good PC, but I guess I'll spend money on it when I get out of college (1.5 years)

But for the time being, I feel the need for an upgrade

(Also, please try not to suggest sites which may sell fake products, I can't bear such a financial loss right now)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin

Getting i7 3770 or 2600 is probably your best route

Or you can see what you can get for used, maybe you can get a full rig with i7 3770 for that price? Then you'll have spare parts and what not

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

You don't have to buy a 3770. A i7 2600 works too and is often much cheaper whilst only being 5% slower

But wouldn't that mean going down 1 gen

I have a 3rd gen i3

With regards to the architecture and the tech used

The only thing 3rd gen brought was efficiency which allowed for a 5% performance boost and that was it.

Well considering your motherboard isnt some kind of OEM board the 3770 is just a drop in replacement for your i3. Which a 4c/8t CPU of this age will do fine for now its starting to get to the point where it will struggle in the future. However if thats what your cheapest upgrade route is then by all means drop in a 3770 and worry about it later

Primary Laptop (Gearsy MK4): Ryzen 9 5900HX, Radeon RX 6800M, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 24 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz, 512 GB SSD+1TB SSD, 15.6 in 300 Hz IPS display

2021 Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition

Secondary Laptop (Uni MK2): Ryzen 7 5800HS, Nvidia GTX 1650, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 16 GB DDR4 3200 Mhz, 512 GB SSD

2021 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

Meme Machine (Uni MK1): Shintel Core i5 7200U, Nvidia GT 940MX, 24 GB DDR4 2133 Mhz, 256 GB SSD+500GB HDD, 15.6 in TN Display

2016 Acer Aspire E5 575

Retired Laptop (Gearsy MK2): Ryzen 5 2500U, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 12 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4, 256 GB NVME SSD, 15.6" 1080p IPS Touchscreen

2017 HP Envy X360 15z (Ryzen)

PC (Gearsy): A6 3650, HD 6530D , 8 GB 1600 Mhz Kingston DDR3, Some Random Mobo Lol, EVGA 450W BT PSU, Stock Cooler, 128 GB Kingston SSD, 1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM

HP P7 1234 (Yes It's Actually Called That)  RIP

Also im happy to answer any Ryzen Mobile questions if anyone is interested!

With my budget, I can't seem to find a used Mobo which could support newer CPUs, let alone a full rig lol

Sucks to be broke!

Guess I'll just buy a 3770, if possible

Thank you!

I see that, yeah

Although, few people say, 3770 is an upgrade to 2600

Better value for money plus, it might even last an extra year longer

As per a few benchmarks, 3770 seems to have a lead over 2600, gaming or rendering!

Also, 2600 is not available here

(More expensive here than 3770, if you believe me)

But thank you!

This was helpful!

I suppose that's what I'll have to do

Sucks that Intel just changed the whole socket for newer CPUs

(Why couldn't it have been like a universal pcie slot)

Apparently they compare 3770 with an i3 9100f

Obv, 9th gen beats it's ass, but it goes to show how well the 3770 still performs

Thank you for this though!
