Hi there, im planning on buying a new AMD CPU but I dont know which one. Initially I was planning on buying a Ryzen 9 3900x, but after the release of the new Zen 3 CPU's, I thought why not buy a Ryzen 7 5800x or a Ryzen 9 5900x. The main issue I have when trying to decide which one I should buy, is which one will do all the things I need and which one is worth my money. The main use of my pc is gaming and photo editing. For photo editing I use a mixture of Lightroom and Photoshop. The main games I use are MSFS2020, P3DV4, F12020, PC2, CoD Cold War and KSP. The price here in Argentina are 388 usd for the 3900x, 388usd for the 5800x, and 500 for the 5900x. I currently have 400 but I am able to get the 100 usd for the 5900x.

If you are wondering why the CPU's are 100 dollars cheaper in Argentina, is due to the fact that Argetina has two values for the US dollar, an oficial one and what we call a "parallel" one. The oficial is only for some businesses and the "parallel" for daily use. The difference

The 5900x is definitely the better value. 50% more cores for a 25% increase in price even without including the rest of the system cost. I mean if you don't need 12 cores then you likely don't need 8 and could simply get a 5600x instead for super fast single threaded performance while still have good multi-core with 6 cores. I would stay away from the 8 core as the price simply doesn't make a tone of sense when compared to amds other offerings.

Thanks for your advice. So should I go for the 3900x or the 5900x?

Probably the 5900x. The improvement in the programs you use are actually pretty big between the two. In photoshop benchmark the 5900x is 20% faster than the 3900x
