Performance Mystery - Winrar

Okay so I have a mystery for someone to solve, I'm unzipping a single archived file in winrar that is about 19gb and the time remaining is at 30 minutes. What I noticed is that my ssd read writes are not being pinned neither are the I/O operations, also the ram and CPU usage seems to be fairly low in this extraction process. What I'm wondering is why isn't my extraction going faster and why isn't my hardware seeing a larger load. Is this an optimization issue or a constraint of the software?

It should be noted that I do run my system as a VM on an unraid server but I have allocated physical hardware for this machine, so the disk read and writes are on a samsung 960 EVO NVME SSD.

Specs:

i9-7900X allocated 5 cores 5 threads at 4.3 GHz - because its in a vm task manager lies but it does clock up

Approx 16GB ram XMP
960 EVO NVME

Unless you're paying for WInRAR, I find 7zip faster.

That might be because my largest archive was 3.6GB (Old Mac OS X disk image) though.

I'd try 7zip as well just to see if the speeds are better/worse. Plus it's free...
