Computer freezes when using USB stick

Mangrovius
Go to solution Solved by PorkishPig,

Hi. I bought a ''Kingston DataTraveler 64gb'' from a dutch retailer about a year ago and stored some files on it, but after putting them on, I never used the thing in the meantime. It's about 50GB of data (which I don't need anymore) so I thought to myself lets go format the drive. When I'm in windows and I insert my USB stick and go to file explorer, if I try to open or rightclick the usb stick, it loads for an extremely long time (after 30 minutes still no result). If I click anywhere else on my pc, it crashes. If I try to turn the pc off, then insert the usb stick and try to boot into windows, it won't get past the loading screen of windows (the one right before you login). I've tested this with 2 desktops and 1 laptop, all have the same result. Any tips?

(P.S the specs of all 3 pc's are (rougly) i7-4790K, GTX 1660TI, 16GB ram)

Kind regards,

or use rufus and format the drive, I've found this especially helpful on drives that have several partitions that were created. https://rufus.akeo.ie/

You can erase the drive with the DISKPART CLEAN command; assuming the drive isn't faulty.

Yes, the link above works with Windows 10 too.
