I have noticed that the forum has no advertising whatsoever, which is amazing but it obviously attracts a huge amount of traffic now and I was thinking that maybe 1 or 2 ads on the main page might be a good idea to help generate more money for Linus and Co.

Obviously they would have to be well thought out tech related ads, no click for boobs or pyramid scheme junk.

Again I love the super clean forum, but I recall Linus mentioning that they might be moving into a new building and thought maybe something like this could help cover the costs?

I dunno I just think I would be happy to have to look at an ad from a big brand company on the home page if it helps the forum.

Thoughts?

The only problem, most users of the forum use ad blocker, so it wouldn't matter.

True but many still don't, like myself, for exactly that reason. I'm sure Linus is doing fine especially going into the future, just thought a little extra revenue for the sake of having to look at an ad on the main forum page wouldn't bother me at all.

There has been some talk on the forums recently about things like an LTT store and Bit mining, this was just an idea I had, but yeah I suppose you guys are right, it is nice to have one of the only "clean" forums around :)

i can see each individual doing advertisement in there signature at some point, if it was up to me i think it would be good if companies like Nvidia / Intel having staff members  posting on the relevant posts... another thing that i see happening as well is when people get sponsored for custom builds putting the sponsored companies in there signatures.

overall using signatures are a better way to advertise than doing sponsors on the main page and on each special page.

in the movie at 44mins 45secons to 45mins 35 seconds

Haha making me work for it?

Yeah that's the part I thought you were talking about, that may (or may not) have been the ethos in the beginning but honestly Facebook is the company I think of first now when I think of ad revenue, that's pretty much what the whole company is based on. To be honest Facebook ads are getting more annoying by the second, I'm not suggesting anything like that for LTT and I don't think 1 or 2 ads from a company like let's say... Gigabyte are going to put off new members.

I like your idea about having representatives, that sounds pretty good, no doubt that will start happening of its own accord soon enough. Not sure about ads in signatures though, large sigs really are quite obnoxious to me, to be honest that would actually put me off visiting the site, that sounds more like Facebook's ad implementation compared to what I mentioned.

This forum is sponsored by NCIX.

Correct me if i am wrong, but would APPLE want SAMSUNG in the same advert?

That said, would NCIX, who supports this forum by hosting it, want ads on the site?

But yeh, just my theory

NCIX don't host it anymore! they switched to rack space recently!

an advertisement of any size is advertisement none the less. if a postage stamp that says "buy coca cola" attracts your attention then its done its job.

A donation function would be something good too right? I wouldn't mind donating 10 bucks once in a while.

True... A way they could maybe do that is through the badge system if someone knows a lot about a certain manufactuer they could be an "X specialist". I just freaked out when you mentioned signatures, if there's one thing I hate on forums it's big flashy gif sigs that you have to scroll all the way down the page to get past

Yeah definitely couldn't hurt, I would certainly make a donation!

@Pixxie_Payne yeah that's basically the only thing advertising is good for now a days, I can't see that the majority of internet users actually click ads unless it's from a very well known and trusted brand.
