So I found this GTX 960 on craigslist for 20 bucks and the guy only specifies that "the fans spin and LEDs turn on but there is no signal". If I could get that bad boy fixed I could make a nice buck! What could be some easy or just obvious ways to fix a problem like that? Is it even worth trying? I'm trying to get in contact with him to see when it started acting up

Most likely it's a dead GPU core and you need to firstly source working GPU cores, they don't exist really because they don't sell them and if it works in the first place you will just use the card. Secondly you need a BGA reflow station and they cost around $60,000. There is a reason it's $20. It's a paperweight. BUUUUUT with all of that said it could be as simple as a blown SMD and is a $.01 fix. But don't get your hopes up. Best thing you can do is sell it on eBay as not tested for $75 and let people know you have no clue if it works or not. That's on the unethical side though

Best thing you can do is sell it on eBay as not tested for $75 and let people know you have no clue if it works or not. That's on the unethical side though

No, that wouldn't affect its video (I don't think), but you can try it.

If that fails, the oven method is worth a shot.

the oven method is a last ditch method to get slightly more life out of a dead card if your lucky. even if it worked, it would not be a valid method for reselling the card as you would be scamming someone with a card that is about to die imo. as said above, you could get lucky and it's a cheap easy smd component to replace, but likely a bga chip that you need very expensive equipment to repair. tl;dr, i wouldn't bother unless you are okay with likely burning 20$.

it honestly could be something simple, could even just be a bad flash. i'm just saying you are rolling the dice, if you are okay with that, i would say go for it.

My grandparents' are within 20 minutes and their attics are separate from their houses, so I can ride my bike over and poke through the stuff. Found a legacy 386 tower with no optical drive - just 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives. Unfortunately can't bring it home - my grandpa needs it for reading/writing 5.25" floppies.
