It shouldn't require any additional software, but support might be limited, and not every game will recognize the different inputs right away, so you might have to rebind ingame.

 

I however recommend using Steam's Controller support, as that has a bigger chance of providing a good experience.

 

The 3.5mm jack does not work no matter the connection.

Sony stuff usually does require require additional software, steam is definitely the way to go however they are still updating every few days with fixes/features for the new controller. Might need to be on the steam beta channel too
