Im wondering because i have seen loads of guides on this what is actual best one or does it depend i just got my 500g evo and was looking around.

Not im using windows 7

1. Alot guides says disable system protection i guess this is do at your own risk but idea is its faster because its not make a back up for everything you do most people say windows restore sucks any way better do your own back ups.

2. Some say disable or enable indexing not sure what is better some say you dont need it some say disable it and serarch is alot slower.

3. Page file im not really sure about this one alot people say disable but some say you will run into common programs that wont work or are slow. Alot of people say just slow it to 1024 size put keep page file.

4. Most say disable hibernation file some say it lill make boot slower idk.

Almost all them said disable superfetch and Turning Off Write-Cache Buffer

Thanks i been debating the rapid mode or not i watched ncix video on it and i guess there is risk of data corruption but im not sure i have only a surge protecter not a ups or battery back up.

Should it be ok and what are the downsides if any.

There are a LOT of miss information about modern SSD's.

SSD's have come a VERY, but I mean VERY, long way since its early days. They are significantly more reliable to a point it's not even funny compared to before. And they supports a huge amount of writes.

They are different types of SSD's, some (identifiable with their 5 year warranty), can be trashed with writes daily, and last for well over 8-9 years.

The rest however, are still crazy durable where you are for sure will change the SSD even before you should be worry about anything, and if you trash with writes, well those 3 year warranty SSD will most likely pass 5-6 years easy. All assumes no manufacture error, of course, and everything is estimates, of course.

The only information on what you read, that is correct, is that SSD's don't benefit a single moment of defragmentation, as the data inside the memory chips in the SSD are on purpose fragmented, to evenly use all the chips which is one of the technique used (beside better quality chips), boost the life span of the SSD. While I don't recommend it, beside the fact that it's 100% useless, like we are not even taking about 0 millisecond improvement, this is really NO improvements, you can defrag your SSD. It won't die on you or anything like that as suggested on what you read. I am not saying it's OK to do it, it's useless, just wear out the SSD for nothing, and shorten its life. But my point is that SSD are significantly more durable, and they were test done by various web sites which confirms this. It's been many number of years that SSD are out, and when they hit consumer market, huge amount of investment in R&D was done to make them cheaper, faster, and more durable. Sadly, the information you read still echo's on the internet.

Do nothing. Enjoy your SSD like an HDD, and if you just play games do downloads here and there. It should pass 9 years.

Should it be ok and what are the downsides if any.

basically it affects the RAM, basically the downside it uses extra bandwidth on the buses , to give extra speed to the ssd by cacching things to the ram instead of the SSD it's self , saving the SSD in the long term. so it uses Ram to increase speeds , uses the ram being the downside but also goodside.
