virus

hello i think i downloaded a virus it opened up tons of porn and closed my pc when i did i've already wiped my ssd and did a recovery but im still getting warnings when i scan my pc in malwarebytes and bitdefender does anyone know what i can do  i also got the virus from a gta mod if it helps

Reinstall your OS. Do a new install, not a recovery.

If there are any other drives plugged-in a virus could have installed there.

Fight viruses with av software - at least it will be useful for something other than showing icon in tray and slowing down your pc.

 

I wonder why people discuss about antiviruses (which one is the best, faster, more efficient) and then, when that type of software finally may be useful, choose method that works no matter if av is installed or not (like wiping drive).

 

Good thing is - if you use some av software, now you know that is bad.

i did it and non showed up e you think the pc is virus free now?

Now? After you format drive? Well, if you're not sure, then I don't know more drastic method to remove any virus.

 

And btw. you did what? You had AV software when you opened that zip with virus and get infected? So your AV is crap.

Good AV protects your computer by prevent running any dangerous viruses - both by scaning file and memory. If it's not working good, then it's a crap, not AV.

 

I saw once funny thing - Defender allows file to be executed, but then, AFTER, mark it as dangerous. I start wondering if Defender really protect any personal computer or it just prevents to spread infection to other machines.

Eset SysRescue - It runs off bootable USB/optical, it is a Linux distro if you want to be as sure as you can be.

Well a virus can reside in other things than hard drives so it depends on how sure you want to be. I definitely would scan with Bitdefender at least.

I would say do a whole drive wipe if you want to. if you have a hard drive you can use dban, which jake gave a quick mention in the red key video. it will wipe your whole drive. virus and all. as it says in the name: Darik's Boot and Nuke
