Good afternoon everyone. Just snagged an AMAZING deal on craigslist. i7 6700k, Z270X Gigabyte Mobo and 16GB Trident Z ram, but when cleaning off the old thermal paste from the nooks and crannys of the IHS, I found what looks to be thermal paste on the BOTTOM of the cpu.

Is this just manufacturing process or did this dingus get paste on the bottom and can I clean it off with the same IPA 91% and a coffee filter?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like it is thermal paste yes, a Q-tip or new toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol would clean that right up. I wouldn't risk it being there in case it's conductive paste.

Huh, didnt even see that. I cleaned top and bottom and everything looks to be ok. That being said this guy had custom bios, altered boot screen,  and saved OC profiles on the board despite saying "it has never been overclocked." ok....

Regarldess the cpu board and ram for $165. I made out like a bandit and got to replace my living room PC guts which was a Z87 board asrock board with a non K i5 4590 and 16gb of ddr3.

Combined this new set up with a 1060 6gb and Im off to the races.

Thanks yall.
