I currently have an  RX480 Red Devil 8GB, and while it is a very capable card, when recording performance can falter. All I mostly want to do is be able to record and maybe stream the latest games in 1080p at decent settings.

So, I was thinking of upgrading the GPU and I want to know what kind of choices I have. Most of my choices are nvidia cards, because of the nvidia recording and streaming features, but also because any rx 5000 gpu's used are sold at retail pricing. So I ended up with 3 picks. FYI not really interested in ray tracing.

GTX 1070 - 200£

RTX 2060 -  230£ (price only applies to some single fan designs)

GTX 1080 - 250£ (subject to change to 260£ or higher)

1070ti - 250£ (subject to change) < definitely not worth it considering it costs as much as a 1080

Now the GTX 1080 and 1070TI are pushing my budget a little bit but it's probably worth it. So which GPU should I choose and why? And are there any other GPU's out there that are worth considering?

The RTX 20 series and GTX 16 series have better encoders for improved recording performance, so the 2060 would be pretty good for your uses.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

But wouldn't the extra performance of the GTX 1080 be able to account for that, while at the same time allowing me to play games faster while not recording?

it's a trade off for one or the other, better encoding performance and good gaming or better gaming performance with decent encoding.

Both are an improvement over the 480 but the priority is OP's choosing

The performance penalty on a 480 when recording is negligible ~ 5% perf hit. I suspect OP is encoding off of his CPU and not GPU.

I would say double check that you're using the GPU to encode and not your CPU.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
