MoBo not recognizing GPU

Thx for the reply. What do you mean it is not mainstream and which card do you mean as I tested two different ones (the new RX 550 and an old N250GTS) and both are not working.

i doubt its an issue with your gpu, you probably need to update bios, but that mobo doesnt have a bios flash button, so unless you have a third gen cpu, or can visit a hardware shop your kinda screwed

I ordered the following components for my PC build:

CPU:  AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

MoBo: ASUS Prime B550M (WiFi) (mATX)

GPU:  Powercolor RX550 Red Dragon (2GB)

PSU: 500 Watt be quiet! System Power 9 CM

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Aegis DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit

SSD: 500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 2280

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S

assembled them and have the following problem:  The monitor does not get a signal from the GPU and the fan is only twitching shortly when I start the PC but it doesn't spin. When I start I can here a single beep after a few seconds, then a pause and then I get the error beep sequence long, short, short, short that indicates a problem with the graphics according to ASUS manuals. So what did I do to troubleshoot the problem:

- I checked all power connections (24Pin & 8Pin are correctly connected to MoBo and GPU does not need external power)

- I removed all unnecessary components (all peripherals, SSD, second RAM module) to pinpoint the problem

- I used another PSU (550W)

- I tried another GPU (MSI N250GTS) that has external power and its fans were spinning (fullspeed judging by the noise) but still the same MoBo error beep sequence

- I also tried my new RX550 in another computer and it is working there

- I also checked the voltages at the Pins of the PCIe slot with a multimeter which seem to be ok (I am no expert at this)

- I also tried both RAM sticks in single configuration

Can I assume there is a problem with the board? How likely is that? Or is there a compatibility problem with my components? Or is it a BIOS problem? But how do I change BIOS settings or update it without a display? The Ryzen 5 5600X does not have a iGPU that I could use temporarily. So the display outputs on the MoBo also do not work.

Any further ideas? I am afraid that if I get another MoBo I will end up with the same problem.

The graphics card you mentioned is not mainstream, it may be causing an issue. if you're looking for a cheap graphics card, you can get yourself a 1650 from nvidia.

the RX series from AMD is their mainstream line, and the 550 is an off the shelf part so it's definitely mainstream.

I would be suspicious that the motherboard's BIOS is affecting the GPU compatibility.

as for the beep code, could be an error and the CPU might have an issue instead. that is, unfortunately, difficult to test.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

its b550 and a 5th gen cpu, you need to update bios for compatibility

in terms of the CPU that would be a likely culprit, for some reason I thought you were referring to the GPU only

So, I bought a modern CPU and MoBo and in order to use the stuff I need to update it which is not possible, because I need to update it first? Are you kidding me? What is that nonsense.

Is there any chance I can update the BIOS "blindly"?

B550 was released some time before Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. The BIOS version is whatever comes newest from the factory the day it hits shelves.

AMD does in fact offer a fix for this from their customer support:

If a local shop doesn't offer a BIOS flash service, this is your best bet.

A motherboard that features "BIOS Flashback" would be able to do this, but your particular motherboard does not.
