Budget (including currency): $1000-$1400

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR, 3D modeling, Gaming, Productivity.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have a 60hz monitor but am planing on upgrading. I don’t need any other preiferals.

I know about 5000 series but I need extra cores for VR and productivity. I also save $50 by going 7 3700x. I am intersted on seeing what you guys think and what I can improve on.

I recommend getting an aftermarket CPU cooler if you want to overclock. Maybe squeeze a 3600Mhz CL16 32GB kit in there? Preferably then overclock to 4000Mhz CL17? Your motherboard has pretty bad VRM's for your CPU, unless you don't overclock I suggest getting a good B550 Tomahawk. Everything else looks pretty good.

What cooler do you recommend?

Hyper 212 (decent) or Scythe Fuma 2 (good) or Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 (really, really good but AIO).

If you want to overclock, don't get a Hyper 212 and get something beefier like the Fuma 2. The 212 is a good cooler, don't get me wrong, you just won't get much overclocking headroom out of it. That being said, given you want to use this PC for productivity I wouldn't recommend overclocking. From my experience it's just not worth the stability issues it can cause, plus it means you don't need to spend more on a better motherboard. Would still advise getting an aftermarket cooler though, the stock cooler with the 3700x is adequate, but not good. In that case the Hyper 212 would be suitable.

I too would recommend doubling your RAM capacity if you can afford it - you'd benefit from it in software like Maya or Zbrush - but that's an easy upgrade down the line.

CPU: i7 4790k, RAM: 16GB DDR3, GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

Thanks I think I might just stick with the stock cooler for now and save and upgrade later and spend the money I save on more ram.
