Budget (including currency): £400 (for gpu)

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Sony Vegas Pro 4k, Streaming, Warzone, Rogue Company.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm not sure how you are supposed to tell if your mobo can *handle* your components. So I'm hoping the good people of the internet might help me.

Current rig:

R5 2600
Asus Prime B450M-A
16GB DDR4 3600 RAM
GTX 970
500W PSU.

Use case: I'm getting a new 4k camera for xmas and will be wanting to regularly edit 4k video. Currently I do 1080p and it's good enough, but does lag a bit in Vegas Pro after effects are added and stuff. I also game, and want to start streaming.

I won an incentive at work where I can pick something for up to £200, so I thought I'd upgrade to 3600XT (having to only put £20 towards it).

My question is, do I need to upgrade the mobo or should the B450 I have be fine?

Second question, I know the codecs on nvidia gpu's put them ahead when it comes to streaming. I have £400 budget, but I don't want to spend more than I need to, would the RTX 2060 KO be fine?

TIA!

Your mobo is completely fine. For a new GPU, the 3060 is coming out, and that's expected to be around 350 - 400 (although gl finding them in stock.) If you don't want to wait, get a 5700XT.

By 6800 he means the Radeon 6800 ( many people, including me, get confused by only numbers)

I guess I can wait two weeks.

what’s all this about streaming + nvenc or is it dumb to buy a underperforming gpu just because it’s “better” at streaming?

presumably the 5700xt will handle it fine (i’ll check YT).

also, no harm in clarifying the numbers thanks!

Is it even remotely realistic to get my hands on a 6800 though? RTX3000 sold out in minutes didn't they? Presumably it will be the same here, and then you're waiting months for more inventory I guess.

Do you expect the 5700xt to drop in price when 6800 comes out? I guess it depends on the price point of the 6800 right

If you can hold off until January there is speculation of additional video card releases including RTX 3060, RTX 3050 Ti, and AMD 6700 series.  In addition, most B450 board vendors will have released updated bios for Zen 3.  I believe Asus and Gigabyte have done so already.  I am sure reviewers will have B450 vs B550 Zen 3 comparisons soon.

I would also take your Power Supply into consideration when choosing a new card.  500W may not be sufficient.

I don't really want to hold off that long - there's always something better around the corner, I just wanted the most ideal I can get now.

Seems like 5700XT is the way to go, if that's going to give me the best streaming experience and video editing experience then I'll probably be going down that route. I've read online there should be some announcements mid november about 3000 series, so I'll hold off a couple weeks and if not I'll just jump for the 5700XT.

Good point about the PSU. Online wattage tests seem to reckon the PC would pull about 390W, an upgrade wouldn't hurt. Plus this one is yucky semi-mod.
