First time using any forum, sorry if I'm doing this wrong.

My dad bought a new computer but the rest of his budget had to be used for other things, so he couldn't get a power supply or an Operating System. Now he can get a power supply, but not the OS.

I suggested taking a copy of Windows 7 from an old computer, and using it on the new one. I was wondering if, is this even possible? Can you take a copy of Windows 7 off an old prebuilt, use it in a new custom built computer, and upgrade to Windows 10?

Go to Create Windows 10 installation media, put that on an USB drive and use that as a boot drive. It'll install Windows 10, just get an activation key later.

So there's little loop-hole. Not in a sense that it would be feasible in terms of EULA, but more like MS allows it, and doesn't really care.

Since you can use any Win7 key to activate Win10, and Win10 licenses are tied to MS account which can be moved around. Plus some say that activating Win7 key as Win10 key actually makes copy of the key which can be simultaneously used in 2 machines, one for Win7 and another as Win10.

So, install Win10 and just try it.
