The RAM will of course need upgrading at some point, for now only interested in mobo and cpu EDIT: I will buy some 3200 DDR4 cl16

As the Ryzen 3300x appears to be discontinued/scalped off the face of the planet (it’s been out of stock everywhere for 3 months) looking at the following ballpark:

Ryzen 3 3100 (£99)

or

Ryzen 5 2600x (£136)

and

Asus Rog Strix B450-F (£100)

or

Aorus B450 Pro (£95)

Please can you advise if the 2600x is even worth it based on what I want to use my pc for and which of the two motherboards is better, it would also be beneficial for me to know if the cpu will work “out of the box” with either board or will I have to do something with the bios (never done anything like this before).

Many thanks in advance.

your current ram wont work with any cpu from the last 4 years. I would wait a bit and spend more on a used r5 3600 and some ddr4 3600mhz cl16.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Oh my gosh really??! Well I can afford to buy RAM if necessary, is my existing RAMs clock speed to slow is that why it won’t work?

Your old RAM is the older DDR3 type memory. All Ryzen CPU's only accept DDR4 type memory.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Your current system uses DDR3, we are already on DDR4 and DDR4 is not backwards compatible with DDR3 due to design specs (that notch is different) as well as voltages.
