I hope this is in the right spot :)

I have a 16GB Optane stick that I would like to set as system memory (if it's possible).

I tried setting it as available cache but it didn't work (Task Manager showed 16GB of 16GB everywhere it could).

Any other advice?
I am using a Ryzen 5 3600 and an Asus ROG Strix B350-F Gaming motherboard.

You can't do that, but you can use it as a page file instead - Once the system runs out of RAM it will use the page file as additional RAM.

So I can't trick Windows (and my dad) into thinking I have 32GB of RAM somehow?

Sad.

I was hoping to troll him somehow (he knows way more about computers than me and that was my hope of getting him)

I will try and make it then.

Maybe someone in China has made an M.2 to DDR4 DIMM slot adapter (not the one that Linus used with the M.2 to SATA power thing, that one's weird).

Your system does this automatically with a page file. Optane is a fair bit slower than DDR4, so don't expect great results.

I know, but it would have been interesting to see my dad's reaction to me having "32GB" of RAM.

Especially since he "mostly" built it and he knows how much is in there.

Contrary to some marketing claims Optane is basically an SSD, nothing to do with RAM. It just allows you to cache a hard drive using the built-in hardware support, which another SSD could do through software.

It's still faster than NAND flash.

Optane is made of NAND flash...

What's sold as "Optane Memory" is logically speaking a SSD, with some Intel software that enables disk caching. The hardware requirement is probably more to reduce the amount of validation they have to do.

There are Optane DIMMs, but these are server only and require specific support from the CPU. Not present in consumer offerings.

It's Intel 3D Xpoint, which means NAND flash 2.0 (I think).

So not NAND flash.

It's not NAND at all. The only similarities are that it provides non-volatile storage and built on silicon. Implementation is very different. Random read performance is much better than NAND.

You can debate this all you want.

I'm just going to work on a program to allow me set storage drives as RAM in Windows 10.

Once it is done I will post it (it will cost money because I needs monies)

That's been a built in feature in Windows and other OSes for 25 years or so as mentioned earlier, so you're a tad late to make money off of that.

No, fooling Windows to thinking Optane is system memory.

Like a 16GB DIMM.
