Hey, LTT! Big fan from Southern Europe here. I need to upgrade my PC as it's beginning to run slow but I have no idea on what to upgrade nor have the money to spend on something big. Any tips? Down bellow is my current setup with peripherals included. It was quite decent when I bought it, like 3 years ago, back when the first intel i9 had just launched. I just saw the new ryzen zen 3 processors and thought that maybe I could get a ryzen 5 5600x with a couple extra work this month 😕

if you could save your case, storage and peripherals than you could get a 5600x, rx 6800/rtx 3070 and a seasonic 600 watt unit, 3600 MHZ ram for about 800-1000

but then again, for the 5600x wouldn't I need to upgrade the motherboard aswell?

If I didn't have to upgrade motherboard I'd do that because it looks really solid. Only problem is how much it costs but I guess I'd just save up

Probably no more than 1k€ but I don't have that kind of money right now so I don't even know how to tell you a quantity. I'd say 500 is somewhat reasonable

Coming in a little bit over budget:

But i would wait a couple weeks to see if you can get a cheap 3600. Either used or reduced retail price.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I'd like to upgrade motherboard so it is compatible with the new zen 3 processors. also , I already have a 500w psu, why the change?

The S12II is a pretty low end power supply, the wattage is fine but the quality is poor. If you're upgrading to nice pc gaming components, I recommend the PSU upgrade as well.

I don't know what a bios flash is, care to explain?

on the rx 5700 line there are 2 cards, a regular 5700 and an 5700xt. the xt has 5%more cores than the regular but also higher clock speeds. when you bios flash you can make the clocks on the regular 5700 the same as the 5700xt's. effectivly making the card 5% slower than the rx 5700xt or about 60% faster than the 1060 6gb

basicly you are taking the software from the higher tier card and downloading it on the lower end model. thus raising clock speed and making the card faster. just do the flash when your power is least likely to cut off ie no thunderstorm

I understand now, but isn't that risky?

as long as you have your system is as stable as possible it isn't a problem. by as stable as possible i mean no overclocking of any kind and if you are using a stock heatsink let the heatsink cool down by turning off the computer until the heatsink is warm but not hot. also some cards have dual Vbios and so if your system manages to crash you have a backup and you can try again on the failed one while still having a backup.
