Wasting money by upgrading from 3600 to 5800x?

Hello, I'm currently thinking of going from a 3600 to 5800x but want to make sure I am making a smart decision. If I understand correctly, the higher the resolution I'm gaming at, the less the CPU matters? Because if I'm primarily going to be gaming at 4k and 1440p, would I be throwing dollars down the drain by getting a 5800x for minimal return? I know benchmarks aren't out so I won't get a concrete answer, but I'm sure some of you out there better understand the improvements from Zen 2 to Zen 3 and what performance gains we might expect to see.

Thanks for any advice!

until benchmarks come out it's anyone's call, this being the last of the AM4 platform it's likely when you need the extra performance the 5000 series will be cheaper.

The best gaming PC is the PC you like to game on, how you like to game on it
