New SSD increasing FPS?

Recently, my friends old 500GB WD M.2 died. Yesterday, he replaced it with an 860 evo. He went from an average of 150 - 250 fps in valorant too 250 - 400 in valorant. Why did this happen? I know hes not lying as he showed me his new fps, and i've seen his old avg fps.


He has a 2070 super and a 2700x

Might be that the 860 evo is just higher quality, but also could be that his old one was just degrading.


edit: also maybe pcie 4.0 on the 860 evo was making it really good

idek how i forgot about pcie 4.0 lol. I still dont understand why there is a 200fps difference

the 860 evo is a sata drive, not nvme. the old nvme probably took up gpu bandwidth , so now it has a lot more.
