Cel

Hi Guys and Girls,

For the past few months I have been gather parts to build a new custom liquid cooled loop in a Corsair 900D (dat brushed aluminium B) )

Lets dive in (pun intended  )

GssViKIl.jpg

Misc

Corsair Lightbar Upgrade Kit

Lamptron CW116 Fan controller

Primochill syringe

Corsair sleeved cables in white.

Phobya 3 pin fan splitters.

BitFenix Alchemy light strips in red.

It's now time for a moment of silence for the old machine

EdG6F0dl.jpg

ALthough ugly, you could still run all the games maxed out... Farewell. :P

God the dust in a HAF X is just unbelievable. This is after 2 weeks of cleaning

With that out of the way build time. *Cue Batman Transition*

First off I have decided to get a custom midplate installed.

Making it out of Smoked Acrylic 15mm thick was the look i was going for.

xb2OaqMl.jpgSo I started with cardboard and some rough measurements.

BU6UfCOl.jpg

Sweet, It is lining up nicely.

Time to make this onto some acrylic

OeGHITwl.jpg

So with the markings now made i decided a jigsaw would be worth a try because dremel discs just get chewed through or melt the plastic.

0S57npPl.jpg

Using some dish washing liquid and water in a spray bottle it worked out to be the perfect lubricant and the cuts came out clean with no chipping or scratching.

So now i start to cut out the Drive bay stealth mod.

VIRcwYol.jpg

A cut out for the SATA and power cable is made first using a shovel bit and then a jigsaw.

I placed everything inside the case to see how it looked. The drive cover looked great for what it has planned... but I just was not happy with the mid panel.

U9DUavzl.jpg

Lucky i had spare, because i cut a new one out.

WashSfAl.jpg

Ahhh much better... But still not perfect...

I noticed alot of slack and droop near the PCIE brackets... so I came up with the following solution

CieYYxXl.jpg

Bend and shorten a fan bracket.

UhfwB20l.jpg

Then screw it into the PCIE cover. Problem solved  :D

With my resourcefulness flowing. I decided it is time to mount the res.

First I needed to drill a mount hole for the top bracket - check, but where could i put the second bracket.

After destroying a drive cage mount from the case i cut up this little metal piece and used it as a support brace.

Res Mounted.

1Nz1mePl.jpg

Looking at it now i think it is mounted too high, but i have a syringe

So after a bit of case modding, it was time to bench the new system.

weZG8q6l.jpg

Looks like i have a nice CPU. 4.7ghz at 1.2V for 6 hours of stress tests..I think I'm in love.

Back to the case work.

Finished off mounting the Corsair SSD... I am still waiting on a sleeved white SATA cable over 60cm... but 30cm  seems to be all i can find  :(

Yeah the data cable... I don't have any of the tools to sleeve my own. I may have to give it a try at some point to finish this build though

So the final bit of the case modding has been done.

I loved the look of stealthed CD Drives and fan controllers. So this is what i managed to come up with.

Mqbbchdl.jpg

Measured up the two front panels.

TipWoJIl.jpg

Hacked at it with a hand saw (rougher cut, but the jigsaw broke)

Some Double sided tape and careful positioning

eow3QUPl.jpg

I will need to clean up the edges, but it will do for now.

Next will be the ram light bars and water block installations  :D

So a progress update.

Alot of work done

D3hAhncl.jpg

I decided to scrap the idea of putting an aluminium block alongside my copper and nickel, so the water cooling section of the mosfets and chipset, so i went for an EK Block

CGyJCQRl.jpg

A few screws for the backplate

cc09dK8l.jpg

The naked beauty...

Out with the old and in with the new.

nOJy96Bl.jpg

I mounted the motherboard and placed a few fittings on, added the cpu block

jfmQMDAl.jpg

Those with a keen eye will notice that i had to move the res, forgot to think about rad push pull clearance....

2UvA1IYl.jpg

After mounting the rads in the top with a 480 and another 480 in the basement with a 240 next to the power supply.

Decided to go ahead and put the ek terminal on the graphics cards now for some test fits.

e3vP9Rxl.jpg

MpSmyVpl.jpg

Time to do some test layouts in the case and figure how the hell i get water through the rig....

lPbyvR9l.jpg

Got a bit carried away and did the whole tubing... a few bits I will change after the drain.

evYiZPZl.jpg

Setting up the leak test

7onuIUnl.jpg

So after filling the loop, the 6 hour wait begins....

jZ4lrHNl.jpg

I will post back tomorrow with the hopeful end result.

Hi guys,

Sorry about the delay. I decided to give my finger tips a rest after all the compression fittings  <_< Next time, surgical gloves...

!!Side projects mode ACTIVATE!!

Because the case is too dam big to fit on my PC Side table... Time to build some supports.

Wood working time!

So with a drill bit screws and wood glue I got to work.

6TQ1T2el.jpg

Silly wood glue

YbyL10Hl.jpg

6MVQaYYl.jpg

!!END SIDE PROJECT MODE!!

Back to the real stuff...

So after a lot of modding and sleeving practice i decided to go ahead and sleeve the sata cable to clean up the aesthetics of the case and the stealth mod...

4BRqnqAl.jpg

All done, think its looks a lot better that the old black sata....

Thoughts?

1D9INmjl.jpg

Just a bit of cable management for a few hours.

ipKFl21l.jpg

I absolutely love the cable management of this case. The back panel fit on with ease.

After that was done I started wiring up the alchemy lighting strips in the case and my PC is pretty much complete..

So now for the glamour shots!

Internals without the LEDs

LET THERE BE LIGHT

So that's it... Thanks for checking out the build.

I shall leave a panorama of my current battle station!

  • 2 weeks later...

I mounted the motherboard and placed a few fittings on, added the cpu block

jfmQMDAl.jpg

Hi there,

I'm starting a build similiar to yours and now I'm waiting for the M6F mobo block to come in to size up what type of fittings I need.

In the photo above, the CPU block outlet is linked to the VRM block. Did you use any spacers on the CPU block?
