A friend of his also sent him a list and I have no idea if his list is better than mine. Also, should I wait for the 5000 series to be released? Let me know your thoughts!

new Ryzen CPUs are releasing in 4 days, a Ryzen 7 5800X would probably be better than both of these options, or even a Ryzen 9 5900X. For 3500 canadian? it fits fine.

You can get some faster memory and a faster SSD, as well as a motherboard with built in WiFi.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Does he really need a 4K monitor for his video editing? Or is there gaming involved too? For video editing only unless actually editing 4K (or plan too in the near future) it would be better imo to go with a dual monitor setup if he has no plans on going 4K the GPU waste in pixels can be used better elsewhere.

Also don't get the 2 TB Barracuda for video editing unless you hate your friend. It's SMR, get the pro at least which is CMR. Equally depending how frequent he uses the drive avoid the Barracuda lineup all together and get something a little more durable and built for the task like Fire or WDs black. Equally you could just go out and buy a WD External (Elements/My Book, and 8TB+) yank it out and put it in the system, basically a $400+ HDD with custom firmware that may or may not need a connector mod (easy to do). Seagate externals are just Barras.

Personally if they can wait, wait till the 5000 series, 3000's should then drop, tho you might find them already dropping on black friday or boxing day. Also if willing to buy used wait till all the crazy people trying to sell their 2080 Tis for retail prices sell them more in line of the 3070, a little more expensive but the 2080 Ti will be better, or just buy the 3070 when there's stock in a few weeks.

Wait for the new cpu.

Spend more on storage. I'd suggest two 1TB m.2 / SSD and if needed a large hdd.

An rgb psu is pointless in the case. Besides, there is some good pricing on the new Seasonic models.

Consider a motherboard with  Wi-Fi.
