help displaying 1440P at 120 with TV

My TV  can do 4K 120 but my GPU only has HDMI 2.0B on it so I can not do that. So I tried setting it to 1440P and defaults to 30hz when changed. Every time I change it to 120 the resolution get dropped to 640x480 at 120hz. Any reason as to why it is doing this?
 

Cable is rated for 8k has 48gbps bandwidth so its not the cable. The cable is hooked up to the 2.1 port on the TV as well.

I am pretty sure you would have to have HDMI 2.1 to do 1440p@120.

2.0 can do 1440 144
