Not likely possible with 2 failed drives.

Replace drives, rebuild raid, restore from backup.

I rebuild the array but the client didn't make backups - so i have 2 failed drives - I was wondering if there was software that would allow me to recover these 2 failed drives then us these 2 "recovered" drives to restore the array?

Sorry to hear your problem, if it's a software level problem or HDD firmware problems e.g bad sectors you could possibly recover the disk and reimport it into the raid array but you're completely screwed if It's physical failure of the Drive

Maybe have a look at drive recover services, possibly?

Not really no. You could have a talk to drive recovery services ,they may be able to image the platters to a different disk to attempt recovery. If its just the board, or a motor issue they may be able to do a transplant on that drive to get it working again. But if you can't recover at least 1 drive, you cant do the calculations to restore the data because you dont have the party bit to calculate against.

P.S they should not be running a 14 disk RAID5 either. Maximum recommended is 8 drives for a RAID5, and that assumes backups if its critical data.

In future they either want to do RAID6 for that many disks, or even better (or for more drives) would be to use a software solution like ZFS, and create multiple smaller RAID5/6's and pool the storage together.

Ive not  recieved the drives yet - I only  know  2 failed there seems to have been an issue where when the first drive failed no email was sent to "whoever  should have been notified" the only  reason it was noticed is when someone tried to access the data it was not accessable.

I didn't configure the server/storage,  this is the only client we have that has there own server or I would have recommended raid 6.

I had a thought that could (if the drives still spin up and can be seen) I use a byte for byte  replication on the drive(s) to a donner drive?

Failing that (depending on cost) they would need to go to a professional company for recovery.
