  1. Hi, I have been tasked with configuring a server that previously had a raid 5 fail see below The specs of the server are HP 380 G6 intel e5603 6 gb ram 2 x 1tb raid 1 c:/ 1 x 1tb hs 1 x 1tb ssh 12 x tb raid 5 (I'm currently trying to repair) No backups...... They want me to suggest a better way to set there server up - My suggestions are (for storage) either Raid 10 – 4 x 4tb or 8x2GB Raid 6 – 4 x 4tb or 8x2GB Setting up smtp (I'm not sure if i need ilo for this or not) Setting up a
  2. Ive not recieved the drives yet - I only know 2 failed there seems to have been an issue where when the first drive failed no email was sent to "whoever should have been notified" the only reason it was noticed is when someone tried to access the data it was not accessable. I didn't configure the server/storage, this is the only client we have that has there own server or I would have recommended raid 6. I had a thought that could (if the drives still spin up and can be seen) I use a byte for byte replication on the drive(s) to a donner drive? Failing that
  3. I rebuild the array but the client didn't make backups - so i have 2 failed drives - I was wondering if there was software that would allow me to recover these 2 failed drives then us these 2 "recovered" drives to restore the array?
  4. Hi, So this is my story: HP Proliant G380 G7 HP SAS Expander Card For Smart Array P410 16 drives - 2 drives for os (raid 1) 14 drives - (raid 5) - 2 drives failed - no notifications setup? recovery possible? how? best tool?
  5. Thanks you Just wondering what are the major differences (that you get on the b450 over the x570)??
  6. Not right now - but I want to upgrade my GPU next year (aboiut this time) and not sure if GPU's will be pci4 or still 3?
  7. Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my inlet i6500 to a AMD 3700x next week(ish). I can't decide between the this two motherboards. MSI B450 gaming pro carbon ac or MSI x570-A pro I'm not using my ram/psu from my intel build. I'm going with: AMD 3700x Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) Corsair VS650 GTX 1080 1 TB SSD 1 TB HDD 2 TB HDD Motherboard TBD Anyone have any input? Cheers Gary
  8. that's not bad very cheap! In March I'm going to (thought work) get my HND in Digital and Technology, I will get my CCNA and prince 2 as a bonus - what I'm looking for is lots of little bits I can use to get into the desktop team here where I work - I'm about to look at SCCM intermediate level as its the main tool they use for deployment I think I'll need to know how to package software/create windows/mac images to start with but I've never actually done it before
  9. We get a free lynda.com account through work - I'm hoping not to have to go externally (or well to another site to pay) if possible :
  10. Hello, I'm currently working first/second line - I'm hoping to move into something like desktop support (image creation/deployment/cloud apps/software packaging/etc etc Previously I was a server engineer build/configuration/OS installation and setup along with storage/networking setup. I'm starting learning SCCM but was wondering what other areas of self-development would be good to have. I use Lynda for most of my training (I've done a+/itil/n+/sccm basics) so if you know of anything I can do on there (as I don't have to pay for it :D) any help would be appreciated
