Looks like some part of my current build is starting to crap out. Its pretty weird, get pretty random BSOD's, can't install new video card drivers without a BSOD (not even sure what to do to figure out what is causing this). Used to get BSOD's a little bit a while back, reformatted, didn't change much. Now its just more often, and when I try and install drivers.

I will try some more trouble shooting to hopefully figure it out (hopefully not mobo or CPU basically), but something tells me it is mobo.

To the real question. If I build a new rig, assuming video cards are fine, I have two very interesting options that cost about the same, and I really don't know which to go with.

I could get a 4770K, 16 gigs of RAM and a Asus sabertooth mobo for about 770 before tax, or I can keep my current RAM, get a GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 LGA 2011 and a 4930k. This will leave me with my current 12 gigs of 1600 RAM in tipple channel which I have no problem with, as opposed to probably 16 gig sof 1866 on the 1150 option.

The problem is, the haswell is a new SKU, where the ivy 2011 is already not. Not that it really matters anyways, its just annoying to buy "old" things. Either way I plan on buying a h100i/Cooler Master Glacer 240L, so that is the level of cooling I will be dealing with either way. I don't game much anymore, but its obviously a big factor. I won't be upgrading my GPU yet, but gaming performance is still a consideration to have. Honestly I know "unless you are encoding don't waste on 2011", but if it costs the just about the same amount either way, what do y'all think are the pros/cons of each upgrade path. And no, I won't be upgrading the CPU on either platform. I keep my computers until they die/are too slow. Neither of which will be before a socket change.

*TLDR*: If socket 2011 costs the same as 1150, and the 2011 gets you a 4930k vs a 4770k, what are the pros/cons of each?

Its a general purpose machine, everyday use type stuff. I know I could just get an i5 and a cheaper mobo and save cash, but I am an i7 guy even if there is no point to it. Gaming, a bit of photo editing (honestly tho, an i5 would be more than needed for my photoshop potentials) and gaming. Its not really about what I "need" it for as much as what the pros and cons about either platform are if they theoretically cost equal amounts, as honestly my current i7 920 @ 3.8 is plenty fast enough. Wasn't planning on upgrading, but BSOD's are not so fun every day.

I will reuse everything that I can. RAM will only be reused on 2011, as I will need to buy larger DIMMs for socket 1150 to meet my needs.

I am a big multitasker. 3 monitors with stuff on all of them, 50 tabs of chrome I use pretty often. I know an i5 will get this done, but, if I used that mentality when I got my 920, I would have got a core 2 quad, and needed to upgrade a long time ago ;)

Wont reuse the H50, as I will go for h100/CM Glacer 240L for better cooling. Both 2011 and 1150 will be overclocked to whatever ghz the chip I get lets me comfortably.

Can I have the H50? lol :P and the antec xP

But honestly, if you go to a 4670k, you'll be able to get a way better GPU and better clocks usually.

I will reuse the antec for my GPU, lol. And I know a i5 will usually clock higher, but assuming it is just my mobo or CPU that is the issue, I will not be upgrading GPU until at least maxwell as honestly this 470 is pretty beast. Although, my display driver just crashed and recovered. Maybe it is my GPU... Gata swap my old 8600 gts in tonight and try and figure out what is wrong :/
