Harddrive is gone!

Hi!

My harddrive is brokey. 

Yesterday i was playing a game which was on my ssd. Nothing exciting. But when i was done, my entire steam library was greyed out. I was thinking, "That's odd, i guess steam just switched what folder it reads games from."

Nope it haden't changed folder cause my drive was gone from the file explorer you know thing. So i checked disk managment, nothing there, even when I seached for new drives and reloaded. 

My drive has made weird noises like for a year atleast. It sounds like bruuuuuuuuuuuuu and then it stops. It also made a weird noise when i powered off the computer yesterday and it probably made it when it was turned on, but I didn't check.

Is the drive dead? If so, can I like return it or has the warranty gone out so I just have to buy a new drive?

Check the cables? If still no good yeah noisy drive often is a hint its dying...

A hard drive should not be making any noise except for the hum of the motor that spins the platters up to either 5400/7200/10000(rare) RPM. Sounds like the hard drive is indeed dead and was on its way out if the noise it was making had nothing to do with the normal operation of the hard drive. How long have you had the hard drive for?

If it is the Seagate Barracuda 2TB on your profile's system specs, the warranty time is two years in the US but check to make sure it is in Sweden. You would have to get a new hard drive at this point.

Connect the drive to another spot on the mobo to see if it is not the drive but maybe something with the motherboard.  Also try a different cable.  I assume you have though of all of these things but doesn't hurt for me to mention these things in case.

I was just hoping that maybe it was something else but yea, this drive is not with us anymore.

No problem, I don't know if anything was personal on the drive and you can always look at the possibility of a hard drive data recovery from a company that does these services, or just cut your losses and redownload all you games again if the drive contained games.

I didn't loose anything important from what I know. 

So I guess I'll have to take it to the recycling center.
