Does acces point affect internet speed

Guest

like the title, i want to know if using acces point affect internet speed or stability or ping. I planned on getting new acces point for my home wifi and disable the main router wifi. I could find a GPON ONT router to replace my old router, so im planning to just get new acces point.

It's very possible. It's also equally possible that aging routers do deteriorate in their stability. Around 2 years is probably when you'll start encountering issues if you leave them on 24/7 like most people.

so does changing the main router possibly fix the problem, if so i might just go for it rather than having 2 router. The router is about 3 years old by now, does cleaning helps or is it just technology aging.

What problem are you experiencing specifically?

With what hardware (make/model)?

Shouldn’t. Unless the WiFi settings are poorly configured for the wireless environment, you have a lot of wireless interference/obstruction, or your hardware is overheating.

Normally, dedicating specific network devices to specific tasks releases CPU resources so they perform better overall. For example, a wireless router might perform poorly as a simultaneous router and wireless access point, but if you disable the radios, it performs well as a router, or if you turn it into an access point, it handles that pretty well.
