SNES emulator on android

asheenlevrai

Hi :)

I wanted to play SNES games on my Android TV.

I thus installed both Snes9x EX+ and SuperRetro16

However, none of them is able to load ROMs from network shares (NAS).

None of them is able to load ROMs from USB dongles either.

They cannot access such devices apparently, only the internal memory (and SD card but they cannot seem to detect it or something).

And I cannot figure out how to move those ROMs to the internal memory. The default file manger won't let me do anything else than open these files with a selected app. cannot copy, paste, rename, nothing... I should probably look into a different file manager I guess...

If I browse my USB dongle, select a ROM (zip file) and then select open with (either of these emulators) -> nothing. The app start but I am at the menu level, where I have the option to load a game...

Anyone has a clue?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best,

Maybe try Retroarch? It can be a bit daunting to use at first if you don't have any experience, but once you figure out how to set it up it's on of the best emulators out there. You can run pretty much any console through the one app AND it doesn't spam you with ads like a lot of other mobile emulators. Beetle SNES is the core I use for SNES emulation on my computer and phone. I've never used an Android TV myself so I don't know how to move the files onto the internal memory.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

RetroArch can access the ROMs on my SD card and USB dongle alright. Thanks a lot :)

Plus my USB gamepad (iBuffalo) is automatically detected and works as expected :))

However I have other problems now, proably because I just downloaded bsnes as a core and didn't change any of the default settings.

 - it's painfully slow (impossible to play) I don't know if that's due to the settings or the fact that the ROM is read from USB (I hope it's the former).

 - audio is shit (probably also due to speed or lack thereof)

 - I cannot go back or whatever. As soon as I load a game I need to shut down the TV and turn it back on in order to go back to the RetroArch menu...

Did you make sure to download the core titled "Beetle bsnes"? There are other versions with slightly different names. Those are usually older releases that may not be as compatible with your device. If the audio is crackling like that it means it's not running the game at full speed. Usually that means either your device can't handle the emulation, or you need to tweak some settings. Maybe try changing the video driver?

No I DLed the core called "bsnes".

I now tried with "beetle bsnes" but as soon as I load a ROM the app crashes and I'm back to android home menu

There are SO MANY settings... I don't know where to start....

I guess that's why people say RetroArch is not noob-friendly
