Budget (including currency): Not sure

Country: Estonia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone, Valorant, EFT, Video editing etc.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hello!

I'm planning on building a new rig for myself. The one I have right now is a i7-8086K, RTX 2080, 32GB DDR (3200MHz), 2x SATA SSD's, 1x HDD (7200RPM), 800W PSU.

Monitor resolution is 1440p,

This is the build list:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 (360mm)

Motherboard: MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi Arsenal

RAM: 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz (32GB total)

SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 1TB M.2 + old drives

GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080 (I'm going to use the old RTX 2080 until I get the new card)

PSU: Help me choose a good quality PSU (Think a 800-850W PSU would be enough?)

Case: I was thinking of buying Fractal Design Define C, but I'm not sure how well it fits the 360mm rad. I've read that it only can house the 360mm rad front of the case and you might need to remove the HDD bracket to fit it. So I'm not sure if this is the right pick. I want a mid tower case that has no side window and would be nice if it was with foam to make it more silent.

Case fans: Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200 (1x exhaust and 3x top or front of the case + 3x rad fans) (If you have any other ideas on the fans I'm all ears. I want them to be as silent as possible)

I would be really happy if you guys would give me some ideas on some of the parts (PSU, Case, Fans) and overall what do you think of the parts list. Should I change something out?

Thank you!

Monitor resolution is 1440p,

This is the build list:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT (I do not care about the 5000 series as 3900XT is fine for me and the price is lower)

CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 (360mm)

Motherboard: MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi Arsenal

Whats te problem with the old computer? It's still a total beast for all your tasks.

Anyways YOU SHOULD care about ryzen 5000 as well your gaming ESPECIALLY in the games you listed will be worse on the 3900xt. The 8086k has better single core performance so you will notice a small hit there. Might as well pay the 50$ premium of the 5900x and get a cpu that is better in every which way.

It also does matter in video editing for effects that are not multithreaded or rely on single core performance.

Now for the build since you don't have a budget but I can see what you are aiming at I will make a pcpartpicker usa list just because it's easier for an overview but prices will of course differ

So basically why the changes.

CPU IS A PLACEHOLDER you 100% should get a 5900x hence the adjusted price.

Ssd is plenty fast enough for a scratch drive but a fair bit cheaper than the 970 evo would even allow you to get a bigger one if you want for a lot cheaper too

Cooler changed because a 360mm rad is overkill beyond belief and really not much better than the fuma 2 + it costs a lot.

Board is a b550 because you aren't using any of the features of a x570 board so might as well save a lot there

Case is the mesh version so you don't get thermal issues

Psu 850w good quality unit to prevent the spikes of the 3080

Gpu is also a placeholder but you know why :p.

Fan wise I recommend a 5 pack of arctic p12's. Noctua performance and silence but you get 5 of them for the price of 1 noctua.

Hi!

Thank you for the suggestions! I very much appreciate it! Suggestions make the parts choosing a lot easier and maybe saves me couple of bucks as well.

Regarding my old rig. My girlfriends rig is really old and underpowered so I thought I will build myself a new rig and give the old one to her. I do have a old 1070 laying around so she can use that until I get my hands on a 3080.

Couple of questions regarding the parts:

Regarding the rad, can you explain why you think it's a overkill, I'm just curious as I'm running a 360mm NZXT Kraken in my current build. Also the Artic one is ~100 bucks (40$ more). I guess the air cooler would be a little bit quieter as there is no pump etc?

Regarding the board I found a x570 Tomahawk that the price of b550. Should I still go with the x570 board as the price is the same and for the future upgrades etc it would be a good board to have since the price is ~5$ more. Found it on sale basically and it's on sale for the next two days.

Oh I might go with those fans then. Saves me a good amount.

For that price the rad isn't bad at all. Why I don't recommend it is because well 30$ coolers can cool the current 3900xt just fine and a 360 is just crazy. The 8086k needs massive cooling due to it being such a powerhungry warm running chip which ryzen is not. So if you want it go for it. Just make sure that the tubes run downwards so the side of the rad that does not have the tubes faces upwards. This is to prevent airbubbles, splashing and earlier cooler death. Also arctic is a leader of performance in their liquid coolers which is nice since they are also usually the cheapest :p. Basically same with their fans too.

The other reason I avoid liquid cooling is how they are guaranteed to die. If you want maximum silence from an air cooler the sytche ninja 5 exists. Bigger than the fuma 2 but same price and almost the same performance just has slower running fans.

If the x570 tomahawk can be found for the price of the b550 tomahawk then get the x570 no reason as to not then part from the cooling fan on it that could cause noise if you ever really use the chipset for something (which should be never in your case). So get that x570 one.

But still I would 100% wait for the new ryzen stuff unless you don't mind losing about 5-15% performance depending on the game (just get the 3900x then too as well there is literally no difference between the xt and the x except the price. Something got messed up with those for some reason).

The p12 fans finally are getting attention due to them getting into a decently sized youtube fan review. I've known they had noctua performance and silence for years but due to lack of reviews they were not often bought. There are things out there saying that around 1150rpm they make a weird noise which is true as there seems to have been a bad batch as I had 1 box with the issue and sent that back. The ones that came 2 weeks later did not have it.

Thank you for the explanation. I will buy the board, but wait for 5900x then and go with that. Regarding cooling, I will decide that later then.
