Hey everyone,

I recently built a new PC (literally 2-3 days ago) and since building it the PC have turned off twice now as if there has been a power cut without any blue screen, any warning or anything. When I power it on again, it just boots up as if nothing has happened so there isn't any way (that I know of at least) of checking what the issue was to cause it to cut out.

The parts I'm using are the following:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3800x
  • Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro
  • 16GB DDR4 3200MHz HyperX RAM
  • 120GB Samsung Evo SSD
  • 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
  • AMD RX5700
  • Ubit AC 1200Mbps Bluetooth WiFi Card
  • Seasonic S12III 550W PSU

I've done a quick Google search but a lot of the results don't seem to be applicable to my build. Does it sound like faulty hardware? If so what is likely the cause? I really need help with this.

Thanks in advance, Matt

Was it under load, or just sitting idle?

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Have you made sure you've connected the GPU and motherboard have all their power supplies connected properly? I'd update the BIOS if nothing else just to eliminate that as a possibility too.

I'm an IT System Admin with 15+ years worth of XP, plus I've been tinkering computers since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver, so I usually know what I'm talking about.

What PSU would you recommend for this build?

there are plenty of good psus out there, it totally depends on your budget and the country you're buying in. i'd recommend a 550W psu from tier B or tier A in the   PSU tier list

Sounds like high temperature protection type behaviour.

Any idea what all of the various temps were when this happened?

When it reboots do the fans go nuts?

The CPU is normally sits at about 60C when I'm working on design stuff but normally operating at 30-45C when just browsing the web and stuff. I'm not sure about the GPU I would imagine it's not really doing much unless I play games. All the fans run normally just before and after the power cuts out. And the PSU fan seems to be running fine.

Weird. The only thing I can see in your setup is the Ubit AC 1200Mbps Bluetooth WiFi Card which according to some amazon reviews has caused crashing in some peoples PCs.

It's a long shot but have you tried taking the card out for a while to see if the issue still occurs?

Update: after removing the wireless card I haven't had any issues with random shut downs for the last couple of days. Now that I need to find a new wireless card, are there any that you would recommend for an AMD build?

I don't use one myself but I would recommend reading reviews
