PC won't boot

zachb2185

Hello people of the forum,

I have a system here that won't boot, power on or post. Tried a different power supply that we know works and tried the memory just for kicks. Motherboard LEDs power on, but the rest of the system doesn't, made sure the power switch works and tried to short out the board with a screwdriver.

Any ideas?

Thank you

How long ago did you get the Ryzen 3600 and ASUS B450-F motherboard?

Does the motherboard box have a 'Ryzen 3000 series Ready' sticker on it?

If you have an old-stock B450-F motherboard, it might not support Ryzen 3000-series out-of-the-box.

You may be required to update / flash the BIOS to a version that supports the Ryzen 3600.

If it says “ AMD RYZEN 3000 DESKTOP READY” will it work with Ryzen 5 3600 without bio updates? (Gigabyte B450M DS3H) : gigabyte

The GTX 1080 has a set of PCI-E 6-pin and PCI-E 8-pin power connections.

Those are REQUIRED and NOT optional; make sure those are connected.

The ASUS B450-F has a set of on-board troubleshooting LEDs, to point in you the direction of what is causing the PC to not work.

Do any of those Q-LEDs light up?

We can't get a post screen and the only indication of power is the RGB LEDs in the heatsink

That's going to be hard to troubleshoot with not much to go with...

Ask him to make sure the EPS/CPU 8-pin connector on the top-left of the motherboard is connected. Make sure the 24-pin is secured connected as well.

Monitor cable needs to go to the back of the GTX 1080, NOT the back of the motherboard.

If the computer is all inside a computer case, double check the front panel wires (e.g. power button, reset button, etc).

Why is the family member who built the PC didn't / can't check to make sure it worked before handing the system??

Everything that you mentioned has been verified and fixed. The issue is that it did post until the system was shipped here. Possibly damaged in ship. (Should've mentioned this earlier sorry)

Ahhh...it might have been knocked around during shipping.

Something might have been knocked loose (hopefully) ... or shipping company is not careful and damaged something...

At this point, your friend may need to check everything from start to finish to see what could be wrong.

Loose CPU / CPU cooler / GPU / RAM ... to cables / wires ... physical damage(s)....
