Hello there,

I've replaced my hard drive a month ago and it is now fine. But if i start my pc, i get a S.M.A.R.T error and a warning to backup my data and reace my hard drive. But the hard drive is fine. Is there a way to disable that messages, so i don't have to press f1, get into&out of bios to be able to boot my system?

what did you use to tell it's fine? AFAIK SMART is the only warning system modern storage have. Just because it looks fine on the outside doesnt mean it's working properly.

As for removing the message, I think it's this route in the BIOS:

Advanced -> SMART Settings -> SMART Self Test -> Off

typically with SMART failures it can be things other than the obvious problems, temperature while running is typically the first to set off warning bells.

what have you done so far to determine that the drive is fine?

after STRONGLY recommending you don't do this, there is an option under advanced which has "hdd SMART information" where you should be able to turn it off.

Disabling SMART isn't smart. (pun intended)

A error like this doesn't come from nowhere.

You should check what exactly it is that's causing the issue using a tool like crystaldiskinfo.

If the error is actually caused by an older drive (which I find to be highly unlikely), then you should first reset your CMOS and see if the error goes away.

You're getting the error message for a reason. What makes you think the drive is fine? Have you checked the health with something like CrystalDiskInfo? As to your question just leave S.M.A.R.T. on. It isn't a problem unless your drive has a problem (which it obviously does).

I've bought this drive about a month ago. After that error, i ran chkdsk, crystaldiskinfo, hdsentinel, a write test with seatools, and there is not a single sign of failure. THen. i removed the drive, tested with 3 other pc-s with no problem at all, then i plug back in to my main machine and there we go, i got that error again, and i decided to write a post to linustechtips, because AMD hide that setting, and i couldn't find that, until now. It is hard to imagine, that an almost brand new hdd, in a perfect condition causes this failure, that's why i immedietly begun to test it. It could probably be my storage controller, what comes with a mobo swap. I am planning to upgrade to Ryzen 5000 but until then, we won't find out what's exactly the problem is.
