psu cable confusion

i am planning on upgrading my graphics card from a 1050 ti to a 1660 ti but i dont have the pcie cables for my psu anymore it is a corsair cx550m and i also will need to adapt a 6 pin to a 8 pin connector pls help

You can buy a Corsair PCIe cable separately.  And it will be 6+2 which works as a 6-pin or an 8-pin, so you don't need an adapter.

also i thought those cables 8 pin on the psu side my psu only has 6 pin connectors on it

The Corsair CX550M has TWO PCI-E 6+2 power cable connections.

They work as either PCI-E 6-pin, or PCI-E 8-pins ...by combining the extra 2 cables from the 6+2 wiring...

Check again.  There's one 8-pin.

Just buy a new psu. CXM is not a reliable psu yet it's grossly overpriced

Who pissed in your Wheaties?   

 

I'm really curious as to what you would suggest replacing a perfectly working CX550M with, for an entry level system like OP's during a time when ALL PSUs are grossly overpriced.
