Hi,

long story short I'm putting an old hard drive into a new system. The hard drive has files and windows 10 installed. I was told that a re-installation of GPU drivers isnt necessary, since the GPU from the old system comes into the new system, but that I should fresh install windows. How do I actually do it? Do i reinstall it using a USB while booting up the new system through bios as if it was a fresh drive, or do I use the windows tool after the new system is assembled and booted up? Am I completely mistaken and its neither of those 2 ways?

Thank you for your time.

1) How could you ever reinstall Windows but not need to reinstall the GPU driver?

2) Please list the specs of both your old system and the new system. Windows 10 is actually pretty good at booting on foreign hardware and sorting itself out but I usually recommend reinstalling if you're swapping from Intel to AMD or vice versa.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

Okay so there are two total swaps: I leave my i5-6600k pc for my parents and insert their gpu and storage from their old amd system into mine. I move my storage, a ssd with windows on it and a hard drive for storage, and build a new system around them, an amd system. The Gpu i have is a 1060 and the gpu of my parents is some cheap amd gpu from an old pre-built pc.

Why do you even ask before you check? Boot that system you already have on your drive and you'll see that it will work. Just like that. If any drivers missing - do it like you always do, but first just boot your system. It's faster than waiting for answer and talking about it. There is literally no easiest problem to check - all you can do is to press power button.
