Hi everyone

Need to help here re networking. Over in the UK I use BT as my ISP. The mode/router/ap they provide is nothing short of shite. Keep getting constant drop outs etc etc.

I want to replace the shitty box. The set up is v basic. DSL came from the microfilter into the back of the router. Now, this is my question...

If I get a router with a dedicated DSL port on it, is it just a case of plug and play (Excluding set up)

Many thanks

You will need a VDSL capable router, more than likely VDSL2. Once you have it then you will need to ring BT and ask them for your login username & password so the modem can connect.

I would recommend this one, I had the 88U (its bigger brother) for years and it never put a foot wrong.

The best part of Asus DSL-AC68U router is it allows installation a third-party Firmware.

My understanding is that the RT-ACXXU models support Merlin but the DSL-ACXXU models do not, unless this has changed since I owned my DSL-AC88U.

This is not an official asuswrt-Merlin but a version made by an enthusiast for the DSL-AC68(x) modem. But still "regularly" maintained firmware. 🤓

Damn, I always wanted to run Merlin on my 88U but never could. Cool it exists though :)
