Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker, 1st time poster.

Just for chuckles I rolled-up a simple install script to install Pi-hole on Windows 10 subsystem for Linux (WSL)

No containers, virtualization, or even physical Raspberry Pi required, just run the script and hit a couple of check-boxes on the scheduled task to run Pi-hole at boot time.

You could run this successfully on pretty much any Windows 10 PC, including 10-15yr old CPUs without virtualization features, or even Hyper-V Server 2019 if you want a free-as-in-beer solution.

The way less insane way to a Pi-hole is to just deploy a standalone Linux VM/Container but that's been done to death.  This solution lets you have Pi-hole on the go, just a few Linux binaries running alongside Windows on your laptop, for example.

  • 6 months later...

hi Guys.

Great site, but sometimes far to technical for me.

I have been trying to install Pi-hole in Docker for Windows. I am rubbish at linix and need some help

Hope you can see it in your hearts to help. I have spent the last 3 full days reading and copying and making a total mess of my Pi Hole.

As I am an idiot, I can never get past:

Docker pull pihole/pihole

All the instructions from this point seem to rely on a level of knowledge I have nothing of.

Are there any step-by-step instructions. I have copied and pasted so many scripts and nothing works.

I got this frustrated with my raspberry pi and tossed that. I thought windows would be a little easier.

???
