Hey guys, i am planning to buy Dominator RAMs!

its either 4x8gb at 3200mhz CL16 or 3600mhz CL18!

And i wonder if its more worth to buy the slower cl16 ones or if i could squeeze the timing on the faster cl18, or of its even worth to get the 3600mhz ones. I havent played around very much with RAM overclocking, so before i buy ill turn to you guys :)

mobo: Asus z490-f

cpu: i9 10900k

gpu: asus 3080 tuf oc

psu: 1000w gold

gaming/enthusiast rig!

cheers

I would go with the 3600 kit and not even worry about RAM overclocking. Its very, very involved.

Give this a read, a few times... before you even attempt to consider it.

Thanks for the fast reply!

I will give that a good read! But with no OC more than the xmp profile the 3600CL18 performs better than the 3200CL16 in gaming? The faster ones are 50$ more so im just trying to figure out which one is more worth!

I have 2x 8GB 3200 CL16 Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB and my set specifically was able to achieve 3600 CL 18 but with great difficulty.

If I could do it again I’d just buy a 3600 kit.

Ok thanks! So 3600 with higher timing performs noticably better then? :)

Umm idk because I haven’t compared both. I am just sharing my experience that you could probably OC the 3200 kit to 3600. But you can probably OC the 3600 kit even higher so it’s up to you whether that extra $50 is worth slightly more performance from your RAM.

Ive tested similar rigs to mine with an 8700K/9700K/10900K + 2080 Ti and as far as gaming goes they all seem to perform identically/unnoticeably whether the RAM is 4400MHz CL16 or 2400 MHz CL18. I personally couldn’t tell the difference during game play of the games I play such as Resident Evil 2&3, Metro Exodus, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

So I don’t really think small changes in DDR4 RAM speed affects game play experience in a noticeable way.

It might be different if it was upgrading from DDR3 1600 MHz to DDR4 3200 MHz.

Thank you man! I’ll pick up the 3600 ones, its both an enhusiast and gaming rig im building so the price doesnt mattet too much! But thanks for really good information! Cheers
