Hi. I am wondering if kan of you have tips to prevent my system from freezing. I have random freezes every few minutes. Even when im just on discord.

Specs:

Ryzen 5 2600x

Gigabyte b450m ds3h

Corsair vengeance lpx 3000 16gb c16

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 super

500gb SSD

1TB HDD

Sharkoon TG4 heb

What would you guys think will help?

Maybe upgrade the case, motheboard and cpu? Because my current motherboard has 1 faulty ram slot i cant dun in dual-channel.

I was thinking of the Cooler Master NR600 with a Asus Rog B450-F gaming and a ryzen 5 3600. Please let me know any solutions or tips. Also, if anyone has question please ask.

Yes, upgrade the motherboard. The one you have now is at the bottom of the tier list.

Are you both serious?
I usually don't go after other users on this forum, but in this case I feel like I have to. It is ridiculous to assume that changing out hardware would do anything, if the system is "freezing". You two didn't ask a single question.

Your computer shouldn't "freeze" with your current hardware.

When did this start?

Do you know why one of your RAM slots isn't working anymore?

Why didn't you RMA the board?

What have you tried to resolve the issue so far? CMOS reset? Did you reinstall Windows?

I have this since I bought my new GPU, but it seems like it dissappeard and reappears. Sometimes it doesnt freeze for days and sometimes 30 times in an hour. The ram just litterally broke, dont know why. I started my pc up in the morning and got 3 beeps, which means ram failure. Windows only saw 8gb and speed was 2133, so swapped the ram to different slots and now its normal again, but the freezes are still the same. I reinstalled windows 2 days ago, but not fully. Tbh I dont really know how everything works so I dont know what CMOS is and RMA

CMOS refers in this case to the build in memory that safes your BIOS configuration. You can reset the CMOS, to reset the configuration.
This can be done by taking out the little battery on your motherboard, while the PC is disconnected from power.

An RMA is a "Return Merchandise Authorization". Basically I'm wondering why you haven't sent the board back to the manufacturer or the retailer yet and got a replacement.
If you're changing out any hardware, then that's the first thing you should do.

Well the thing is I really dont want the hussle. I cant even really disconnext my atx cable somehow, and if i want to remove my motherbaord i need to re install thermal paste and everything. Im just wondering if I should upgrade because I also have FPS issues in some games.

With that hardware you technically shouldn't need to upgrade, unless you play at anything higher than 1080p.

I'm running a Ryzen 7 2700 and a GTX 1080 - so that's not much better than your setup and I do just fine at 3440x1440.

How is your Windows power plan set up?
Within the power plan options, there is a option to set the minimum and maximum power of your CPU.

Looks something like this: (Sorry, it's in German)

It's important for 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs that this is set to 5% and 100% as shown in the picture.

Pretty much dead serious.

You can browse this section of the forum. These gigabyte boards aren't quite as problematic as the AsRock boards, but you get what you pay for.

The idea was to UPGRADE the board, not to RMA the current one that isn't working.

Also, I play fivem. And I have like 40fps while my cpu only uses 40%, my gpu also 40% but my ram 75%, could that also be a problem?

Throwing more money at a problem that isn't even diagnosed, or better yet, that no one even tried to diagnose, is ridiculous.

To RMA the board is certainly the right choice, no matter how bad it is in your opinion and it shouldn't cause any freezes or stuttering.

The change in power settings should hopefully help with the CPU usage.

But yes, that seems to be a problem, tho I couldn't say off the top of my head what you should be expecting in fivem.

I think you should try a CMOS reset, try to get your RAM running on its advertised speed if that isn't the case already and see if that changed anything.

If that doesn't help, replace your board. Preferably you should RMA the board. That way you don't throw money out the windows. If you don't wanna do that - fine - get a new one. To be honest, I can't even imagine the RAM slot to be physically broken, a BIOS update and a CMOS reset might fix it.

That really smells like some software issue to me 😛

So again, I would

  1. do a CMOS reset
  2. update the BIOS
  3. do a complete Windows 10 re-install
  4. adjust your power settings again after the re-install
  5. compare performance with benchmarks (so do benchmarks before and after)

Of course you could also just buy a new motherboard and hope the problem magically goes away. It might work, but it might also just be quite a bit of money thrown out the window. ;)

Edit:
There are tons of videos out there that show you how a CMOS reset is done.
If you've ever changed out a battery in a TV remote, then you can do this too. It's really easy.

Yea well still my fps ingame is just horrible. People with 1060's have more fps then me, like 20 fps more, and the only problem I could imagine is either cpu or ram

There is no known cure for a motherboard or IMC dropping a channel.

Besides RMA or replacement.

The objective is to determine which component dropped the channel.

Cpu or board. (It's actually easier to test with another cpu honestly)

But, 9 of 10 cases, the motherboard was the culprit (AsRock infamous for it)

That is all I have for this type of issue. Please do try and continue help to diagnose the issue, I am interested in the outcome. Hopefully it's just something stupid.... but I doubt it.
